Post-Doctoral Award

Competition Timeline: Submissions accepted from April 15, 2025 @ 16:00 (EDT) to  May 16th, 2025 @ 23:59 (EDT). An independent national review committee will review submissions. Results will be announced in early July 2025.

Duration: One (1) year. Applicants can resubmit to future award programs after 1 year.

​

Starting Date: Between September 1st, 2025 and before December 1st, 2025. If there are extenuating circumstances, the awardee can discuss with the award committee.

​

Funding Value: Successful applicants will receive a stipend up to CDN $21,250. The award will be issued to the applicant's academic institution. This studentship may be combined with other awards, up to a combined maximum amount allowed by the institution, provincial co-funder, and the funding conditions of currently active awards obtained by the applicant. It is to be noted that this award CANNOT be combined with an existing CIHR studentship. Any CHIR studentship, including those offered by CIHR through other organization/initiatives (e.g. Strategy for Patient-Oriented Research-SPOR etc.) will be considered as a ‘current CIHR award’ if the coverage  is active at the proposed start date for CAN-TAP-TALENT award. Also, provincial co-funder rules regarding co-funding or concurrent funding support will apply.

Eligibility

Full-time Post-Doctoral students who are conducting research related to various types of clinical research, also including the analysis of clinical research samples and/or data, and which are aligned with the vision and mission of CAN-TAP-TALENT. At the time of funding, students must be enrolled (full-time) or accepted in a Canadian Post-doctorate degree program and must be a Canadian resident or permanent resident or hold a valid Canadian student visa.

Clinical Fellows in a Clinical Trial Fellowship at a Canadian Research Institution are also eligible for this award. Candidates must be a Canadian resident or hold a valid Canadian visa for the duration of the award and hold a Clinical Fellowship with an academic research institution in Canada.

 

  • Only one application per individual will be accepted

  • Candidates are only permitted to apply to one CTTP out of the 4 namely, CANTRAIN, CAN-TAP-TALENT, StrokeCog or CBITN per year (response to an annual call for application will be considered for that year as the dates for the call may vary from year-to-year) while a Supervisor can submit as many candidates as desired to increase the probability of funding to his clinical trials operations.

  • If candidates are unsure of their successful acceptance to the university program at the time of their application, they are asked to provide proof of acceptance once it is received. The award will be contingent on their successful acceptance to the program in the application.
